When we left the MSS RV park, we pulled over to the Orleans for a few days to sit out the New Year's weekend. They have an over-sized vehicle lot with a mix of RV's and semis. When we pulled in, we asked a Security guard about parking - he said they don't want people "camping" but that if you're going in and gambling and eating, they don't mind if you park there. Tonight will be our 5th night here, and no one has bothered us. We go in to the casino daily to eat and play - no problem. I think what the guard really meant was "no squatting." We're going to leave tomorrow, but it's been a nice place to hang out for awhile.

The buffet is above average; the Courtyard Cafe has 2 menus - standard American fare, and Chinese. The Chinese is some of the best I've ever had; the appetizer for two was outstanding. I suspect they use MSG, especially on the beef dishes, but overall, I'd highly recommend it. There are nine restaurants here. The last time we were here, in October, we tried to catch a quick meal at TGIF's. After waiting for 15 minutes without so much as anyone bringing us a menu or glass of water, we walked out.

The slot club pays $3.00 cash back for every 1000 points. They occasionally have double points days, as they did on New Year's Day. Our luck has been mixed, mostly playing Bonus Deuces VP - seems like either Craig wins and I lose, or vice versa. At least we don't both lose at the same time! (But then, we're still playing on the MSS jackpot, so what the hey)!

The parking lot in front of the Orleans Arena (just a few steps from our door) turned out to be a great viewing spot for the New Year's Eve fireworks - we were able to see them from the Stratosphere on down to the MGM Grand. (No way was I going to get into the middle of the crush on the Strip for "America's Party")!

There is a liquor store in the casino - across from TGIF's - and it has some of the best prices I've ever seen, so stock up while you're here!

Update on the Orleans - the day after I posted about our stay, we got a notice on our door which stated:

"This hotel is not authorized for overnight camping. Please DO NOT lower your camper levelers or extend your 'pop-outs,' as this is considered (camping). (If levelers are found down, your vehicle may be towed without notice, at owner's expense). Thank you. Orleans Security."

I looked around, and saw that they left notices on every RV in the lot. We don't have auto levelers, or slide-outs, and we got one, though we were unhitched. We re-hitched our truck and stayed 2 more nights with no further incident.

I suspect that they blanket the lot with notices, perhaps once a week or so, so that they can say they are "complying" with the Clark County Health Dept. rules and regs.
