October 2006
report from reader Kay H., October 2006

We just came back from a weekend RV/gambling trip to Tunica, Mississippi and thought we would share our experience. This was our first time to Tunica. I had read the reviews and knew there were essentially 3 RV parks there (Grand, Hollywood and Sam's Town). So, I took out my dart and threw it. It landed at the Grand. Reservations were made and off we went.

The Grand casino RV park is a very nice facility. It is secluded and gated. All sites are paved, some have trees. Each site has a picnic table. The grounds were very well kept. There is a lodge with internet (dial-up), showers and a laundry facility. A nice swimming pool is also there. I noticed a playground area, a basketball court, shuffleboard and volleyball courts. We were only there for the weekend at a charge of $22/nite. All sites have full hook-ups and are spacious. There are both pull-trough and back in sites. Of the three, I think it is probably the most secluded and quiet.

If you are towing a vehicle to drive, then that is where I would probably stay again. HOWEVER, we went in our motorhome knowing that there is shuttle service for $1 to all casinos. When we checked in, the gal at the desk said that there was a shuttle that went around the campground on the hour, every hour, 24 hrs. per day. Just put your little red flag up, and the driver will stop. Friday night we were picked up and shuttled to the casino, and back without problems. Saturday morning however...the shuttle driver raced around about half of the campground (not sure how she could have seen any of those little flags) and back out the gate. Of course, the half that she raced through did not include ours. So, we waited for about an hour, here came the shuttle...same racing about and excluding us again!!! Think how much money they casinos were losing by keeping us at the campground!!!! We walked over to the lodge, and told the clerk our experience. She immediately called for a bus to pick us up. Back came the bus...zoom, right into the RV park again, zoomed around and came back (empty, imagine that) and picked us up. We came back to the campground in the afternoon and told the driver what time we wanted to be picked up and we were.

Bottom line, either have your own transportation, or go to the lodge and have them call for pickup. The casino is not within walking distance of the campground.

While out and about we did go past the Sam's Town RV park. It is paved, but right next to the highway. I did see some picnic tables there. Hollywood's RV park is right behind their casino. We walked over to it. Some pull throughs and some back-ins. Sites are more crowded than Grand. But, you can walk over to the casinos...no waiting for a shuttle. We will probably stay at Hollywood next time. We enjoyed the gaming atmosphere at the Hollywood more than the Grand. But, if you are going for a longer period of time, want some privacy and have a vehicle, the Grand would be a great place to stay.

report from reader A. Van, January 2006

Nice open park with pull thrus. Some back in sites have instant phones. Shuttle service. No groceries or other “city” services. Hollywood and Sam's Town casinos also have RV park. Hollywood appears comparable to Grand Casino; Sam's Town is paved but kind of crowded.
