Boomtown Casino

Not many choices for Free camping/parking in the New Orleans area so this works out as well as any. It IS a bit tricky to get here but watch signs carefully (don't get stuck turning onto a "Tunnel Only" lane), but our gps got us here just fine. 20 min. to downtown - fuel and grocery nearby - cell and satellite reception are fine - even over-the-air tv works well. Casino is Very popular with locals so tends to be crowded and we had no 'luck' at all and did not like the basic atmosphere of the casino but they do have table games and good variety of slots. Big open parking lot for trucks and rv's and there was some security evident but no shuttle (walking was fine).

Check your map to avoid the 13' tunnel on the way to casino. Large parking area, mostly level. Security car patrols area at night. Never saw a shuttle. Convenient to New Orleans. Casino: Have visited many casinos near water, never one as musty smelling as this one. Play areas and restrooms not kept clean. Payouts are pretty low, if you get one at all. Atmosphere is a bit depressing. Not a lot of food choices, however the free beverage station is very nice with good selection.
