The route to Harrahs does run through Metropolis but the city is pretty dead - little traffic and well marked with signs so navigating is not really a problem. Oversized parking is on the right after you drive under the arched sign over the casino lot entrance way. The longer spaces are well used by tractor trailers so we parked a few rows down. This lot is fairly large and was mostly empty when we stopped on a Tuesday night. It was also noisy from constant truck traffic. If we stay here again we'll try parking in a far corner of the lot to stay out of the pathway of the truckers maneuvering to get into the spaces.

The casino is on a river boat but surprisingly roomy. It's spread out on three floors with sections of older mechanical slots and new video slots. I never found the video poker machines but they're supposed to have some. Illinois has a strict "no smoking in public places" law so the casino is completely smoke free. It also does not comp drinks.

If you're a fan of movie memorabilia or Superman comics and movies , don't miss the two museums in town. The Americana Hollywood Museum and Superman Museum are stuffed full of one man's lifelong collections - just $5.00 for both of them.
