Report from Beverly W., September 2009

We were in Reno this past September of 09. I thought other RVers might like to know that there is an RV park right  across the street from the Peppermill casino. It was clean and well run and we really enjoyed the Peppermill . The casino is also powered by underground thermals which is a cutting edge energy source and there have been some interesting articles about this.

Casino Camper Note:  Regarding Beverly's report above, the Silver Sage RV Park is right across the street from the Peppermill.

- Casino Camper Report, February 14, 2009

The Reno city council has decided to stop active enforcement of the overnight RV parking ban.  They will now only respond to specific complaints.  I have no details about any new policies that specific casinos will adopt, but I will post them here when they become available.  For now, it's best to call ahead and check with casino security if you'd like to visit them in an RV

- Casino Camper Report, September 19, 2008

The city of RENO has started enforcing their ordinance against sleeping overnight in an RV within city limits other than in an official RV park.

- Casino Camper Report, June 22, 2008

Our friend and long time reader and contributor Karen B. is in Reno.  She told us over the last few days there was an incident at the Peppermill where a RV had a leaky valve on their holding tank and the owner had to be told to leave.  This incident prompted casino security to step up enforcement of their policy which is:

Overnight RV parking is allowed only for hotel guests, and for Platinum and Diamond players club members.

The Peppermill is one of our favorite casinos to visit by RV, so it's very disappointing to hear about an RVer who had such disrespect for their hospitality, and for the people around him.  If you ever witness something like this, I encourage you to report the situation to casino security.  Confronting the individual may be an option too, but I suggest caution.

Casino Camper Report, 2005 (June 2006 and July 2007 updates - NOTE this is historical information only, as the parking policies have changed.  Please be sure to read newer reports above)

Update, July 2007.  Although there's still major construction here the parking garage is finished, so RV parking is being allowed in row G and H of the lot on the North side of the casino.  See aerial photo, RV's allowed in red area only.

The official policy says you must "...Have a Peppermill Passport Card or be a guest of the hotel."  If you're a Gold level or above you can obtain a VIP parking pass for your car.  We play here a lot, and have achieved Platinum level.  I get the parking hang-tag and tape it to the inside bottom center of the RV windshield so security can tell we're players and not squatters.  Players are welcome.

Construction workers park in this lot too and take up lots of space.  I recommend arriving after 5pm on a non-holiday Monday - Thursday, because of this.  Or, you might park in another row upon arrival and then move after 5pm.  Please only take up one pair of spaces - keep your slides in if possible.  It's really tight.

2005 Report:  Great location, security patrolled, lighted all night, sunny (for your solar panels).  It's just a little off level, so please be sure to use boards under your jacks so you don't damage their parking lot!  They play music in the parking lot through speakers at the top of light poles.  It's nice, but can get a little loud.  It's a variety of country, pop, jazz, and standards.  We enjoy it, but we're glad they turn it off at 10pm.

Security will likely put a notice on your windshield the first night to remind you where it's OK to park and where it's not.  Trash containers provided.  Length of stay is variable.  A few nights is fine, but you don't want to wear out your welcome.  If you're not gambling, and they realize you're just taking up space you may be asked to move on down the road.  If you cause problems, or your RV is leaking something, you're out of there.

If you're a gambler, playing every day and they know it, they welcome you to visit.  This is especially true if you're in the top 2 tiers of their comp system (Platinum and Diamond).  For you, they will even allow parking during special events when most other RVers without a room in the hotel are asked to leave.

This is a VERY NICE PLACE and our favorite stop in Reno.  So, if you're a trouble maker go somewhere else!   We sure don't want this great parking opportunity to go away.

They have lots of full pay video poker and progressives (although FPDW has been taken out), good table conditions for Craps and Blackjack, and a very nice poker room with daily tournaments.  The comp system is a secret.  No kidding, they won't tell you how many points it takes for a comp dollar.  However, it's fairly generous.  We usually eat 1-2 meals each day with comps.

2006 update on comps:  I discovered the other night that food comps here are even more generous than we thought.  We've never been turned down, but have always been frugal.  I discovered we have at least double what I expected in the account -- a very pleasant surprise!
