July 5, 2010 -- Reports below are for historic
purposes only. Overnight RV parking is no longer allowed at this
casino

A quick update on the Horizon casino in Stateline, Nevada (adjacent to South
Lake Tahoe, California), where we stayed April 19, 2010.
There has been no change in RV parking, which is still along the north edge
of the property and requires a pass from security, who will give you up to
four nights. As before, the easiest way to access the RV parking area is to
turn northwest onto Lake Parkway off US-50, then turn left into the parking
lot.
The big change is that they are no longer associated with the Montbleu
across the street, who ripped all the table games and two thirds of the
slots out of the Horizon before the split. Due to some sort of non-compete
agreement with the Montbleu, the Horizon is forbidden from adding table
games or increasing the number of slots for two years. As a result, the
casino is completely dead -- I have never seen such a quiet casino in
Nevada.
One result seems to be a reduction in availability of dining venues within
the property. Not really a big deal considering how many properties are
within walking distance, but I thought your readers might like to know.
Also, the players' club cards from before the split are no longer valid, so
if you game there, stop by the desk to get a new card.

Horizon has plenty of parking, and there’s an open invitation for us to all
come visit. They do have some formal, written rules, and although
enforcement varies we found it easy to abide by them, and we urge others to
do so too.
They require RVers to register at Security and obtain a parking permit which
is good for up to 4 nights. You’ll need drivers license and RV tag number.
Security is located on the casino floor, if you walk in from the back
parking lot, past the pool, past the hotel desk, then turn right and look
for a large elevated booth up ahead along the wall.
To understand their rules, just follow the Good Neighbor policy that we
practice at Wal-Marts, with the exception that you may stay up to 4 nights.

It's
possible to drive through the casino parking lot to get to the RV parking
but it's such a tight fit that I'd recommend, if you are driving north on US
50 , go past the casino and make a left turn on the first road. Follow this
around to the back lot, behind the hotel.
You
must check in at the security desk in the casino. They'll give you a pass
good for up to four days and a list of rules. These include no leveling, no
awnings and no chairs. Entrance to the casino is through the hotel entrance
and through a covered walkway that connects to the casino.
The
other casinos and tourist shopping area are all within walking distance.
