CasinoCamper Report, June 2007

Not much to add about RV parking to what Karen said (see her report below).

Bally's has no good video poker.  Paris has 8/5 BP at the Quarter level and 9/6 JOB in Dollars.  Both casinos have OK table games, BlackJack, Craps, etc.  $10 minimum most of the time.

Buffet at Bally's was good, and 2 for 1 price was OK with Las Vegas Advisor coupon but I wouldn't pay full price for it.  Paris buffet we skipped, We had a coupon for $10 off at the buffet at Paris and were going to eat there; however, we discovered the buffet was still about $50 for two people even with the coupon! Now I'm sure it's a wonderful buffet, but I wasn't in the mood for a huge meal and we passed.  The Cafe in Paris was good, although a little pricy.

None of the casino video poker bars had wine worth drinking.  I went on a wine hunt, and found a good selection at Mon Ami Gabi, a restaurant attached to Paris, and the bartender is an entertaining guy.  A few days later I found a cigar and piano bar called Napoleon's with "dueling pianos" and they have a good but limited selection of wines.  You could sample 3 at a time in a flight, and I had a flight of reds that was very good.  The act was very entertaining, and quite funny at times.  They will play any song requested by someone in the audience for a tip.

I'm trying out some new panoramic photo software.  Check this out.  Click the photo for a larger view.  This is the RV and truck parking area behind Bally's and Paris

Report from reader Karen B. March, 2007

There a small amount of parking behind Bally's casino. This is for both Bally's and Paris and is right next to the employee parking lot. To get to it turn east off the strip onto Flamingo Road. Directly across from the Westin Casuarina make a right into the parking lot.

There are signs which say that trucks and RVs must park [south] of the double yellow lines. We weren't sure what that meant but most of the RVs park along the fence across from the employee parking lot. We asked the security guard at the employee lot about parking there and were told that it was fine. We weren't given any limits on time and they didn't require any information from us. Some people had levelers down and slide outs extended. Security keeps an eye on the RVs.

One of the things tourist are always told is that for their safety it's best to not venture off the strip. There's no easy way to get into the casinos from this lot so you must walk across the lot and along Flamingo for several blocks.  Flamingo has a lot of vehicle and pedestrian traffic so it's safe. Use caution in the lot because it's used by cabs and locals as a short cut and they often travel very fast and swerve around the speed bumps.

Also within walking distance is Ellis Island casino. This is a very small casino with good inexpensive food. We didn't have the $4.95 steak dinner but did eat at both the restaurant and BBQ. Both were good but the BBQ was very good. Expect an hour wait for a table on the weekends as both are very popular.
