Report from Gordon, February 3, 2010

I have an update on Reno Atlantis casino. following is my contact with them.  Based on this email, we spent Saturday night 1/16/10 in the Atlanis parking lot.  There were several other RV's also doing the same thing.  We had no contact with security.

Email #1 from a casino representative:

"The City of Reno has stated that they will not actively enforce the "No Camping Ordinance", but that they will still respond to complaints of camping.  You are most welcome to come and park your RV in our West parking lot and enjoy all the amenities that we have to offer.  As long as it does not appear that "camping" is occurring..."

Email #2 from a casino representative:

"You are welcome and you should be just fine.  ...I cannot condone "camping" in the parking lot, but what goes on inside your camper while you are parked is your business as far as I am concerned.  As long as it does not appear from the outside that you have set up camp, I do not have a problem.  Also, you are more than welcome to park your truck for a couple of nights."

Report from Ann, October 12, 2009

here is an email I received to my inquiry about staying in their parking lot.

"Thank you for your inquiry.  If you are a guest in our hotel, you may park your RV in the west parking lot in the back row.  However, you are not allowed to "camp" there.  If you're looking for recreational RV parking please contact Concierge Services at (800)723-6500 ext 4378 for options in the area."

- Casino Camper Report, February 14, 2009

The Reno city council has decided to stop active enforcement of the overnight RV parking ban.  They will now only respond to specific complaints.  I have no details about any new policies that specific casinos will adopt, but I will post them here when they become available.  For now, it's best to call ahead and check with casino security if you'd like to visit them in an RV

- Casino Camper Report, September 19, 2008

The city of RENO has started enforcing their ordinance against sleeping overnight in an RV within city limits other than in an official RV park.

- Casino Camper Report, June 22, 2008

Our friend and long time reader and contributor Karen B. is in Reno.  She emailed yesterday to say overnight RV parking is no longer allowed at Atlantis.  She told me they parked for one night, but security put a flyer on their windshield saying the RV was parked illegally, and had to be moved.  Guests of the hotel can still park but need to contact security.  The flyer cited a Reno ordinance which specifically prohibits sleeping in a RV which is not within a RV park.

Karen's email, and the history of RV parking at Atlantis, gives us a good example of a casino trying to balance their desire to accommodate customers and their need to avoid problems with local ordinances.  We can't be upset with a business that is simply following local law, and we have to be flexible.

You may still want to consider Atlantis for a daytime stop on your way to other locations.  Be sure to talk with security upon your arrival so they'll know you aren't planning to stay.

- Casino Camper Report, November, 2007

Thanks to Gordon who emailed me about Atlantis.  He corresponded with casino security in October, and then stayed there for a few days earlier this month.

The gravel area where RVs previously parked has been paved over to expand the parking lot.  RV parking is still allowed.  The casino is being careful not to run afoul of city ordinances while still providing overnight parking for their many RV customers.  You should check in with security when you arrive and obtain a parking pass.  Although you may see other RV's in the parking lot without the pass I encourage all CasinoCamper readers to do what the casino requests.

Atlantis is one of the top casinos in Reno, a great place to gamble, and has some excellent restaurants.  We want to be good customers and keep this fantastic parking opportunity available.

-Report from Mike, May 2007

My son and I stayed with a 38’ coach at two locations in Reno during the last few weeks of May 2007. Atlantis was the second and we stayed for three nights. Talking to many of the other people there I'm told that there are some motorhomes that have been there for a month or more. They want you to get a players card which is free and easy to get. We were told that they want to pave the gravel area in the back of the west lot but there were no signs of preparation for it yet. We parked on the pavement and used leveling jacks and never was talked to by any of the passing security people. There was music playing in the lot 24/7 but it was not loud enough to be an issue at all and I’m sure if you were in the gravel area you would barely hear it.

- Casino Camper Report, 2005 (Update, June 2006)

RV parking on the western part of the large parking lot across Virginia Ave. from the casino.  Gravel lot with good drainage, level.  You can park all along the west edge, off the paved parking lot.  No need to check in for overnight, but if you stay more than one night look for the security patrol on a bicycle and talk with him.  Make sure he knows you're not a "squatter" and are planning to stay a few nights and gamble.  They may ask if you have a players club card.

We stayed a few nights in 2005, and again a few nights in 2006.  Atlantis is a great casino, but the peppermill is our favorite.  Try them both, you may like Atlantis better.  The Atlantis parking is further away from the casino, but a little more wide open than Peppermill.  (NOTE:  As of June 2006 major construction at Peppermill, so they still have very limited RV parking -- seems like more folks are here at Atlantis)

One thing that you may find annoying, or you may enjoy it, is the music played 24/7 in the parking lot.  It plays all night.  2006 update, it's lower volume now.
