- report from Rick and Lucky Lucy, November 9, 2008

The inter-casino shuttle buses no longer run in Tunica. Harrah's still operate a shuttle between their properties (Harrah's and Horseshoe). The only way to get to/from the other casinos is by POV.

Casino Camper Review - April, 2006

Gold Strike, Sheraton, and Horseshoe are all part of a large casino complex.

RV Parking  Two places to park.

1. As you enter the complex, drive roughly straight ahead and between the Gold Strike and Horseshoe.  There's RV parking in the back of the Gold Strike.  Watch the speed bumps!  This is where to park on the weekend.

2. As you enter the complex, parking is to the right of the Sheraton.  A small sign informs you that oversize vehicle parking is disallowed on weekends.  This is enforced, so see #1 above.

Gambling

Video Poker:

Gold Strike is the best of the three. They have 9/6 JOB, 8/5 BP, and 975 DB at the bar.

Horseshoe has NO playable video poker.  I have to apologize to some of the Indian casinos that I've lambasted over the last few years.  This is some of the worst VP I've ever seen.  6/5 BP, 7/5 JoB, and a BP machine with a paytable of 10,8,5,3,1,1.  That's a 94.18% payback folks.  You're probably better off playing Slots.  We thought we saw an old Indian casino trick, 8/5 BP with only single return for 2 pair (8,5,4,3,1,1).  It "looks" like BP if you don't look close, but only pays back 86.3%.  I returned another day with a notepad and couldn't locate it again, so we may have been mistaken.  Harrah's does mix the "good" machines in with the bad, so I can't say either way.

So if you're in the Horseshoe, my advice is to play live poker (in their excellent poker room) or a table game, and avoid ALL the machines.  Don't say I didn't warn you!

Sheraton has progressive at the bar.  7/5 BP, 8/5 JOB, could be a good play if the jackpot gets high enough.  They're supposed to have regular 8/5 BP and 9/6 JOB but we couldn't find any.

Other Games:

All 3 casinos have Craps and Blackjack available at $5 minimum.

Poker  Horseshoe has an excellent poker room.  I only played one tournament there and busted out early.  Gold Strike has a good poker room, and excellent tournaments (by my standards - I like freeze-outs).  They have 4 Freeze-outs with buy-ins of $125 (2), $230, and $335.  Check casino for schedule, phone 662.357.1136.

Food

Horseshoe:  We only ate at the snack bar.  It was good, a little expensive, portions were large

Gold Strike:  We ate at the buffet 2x and it was very good.  Lots of variety in meats and main courses, a little short on vegetable selection.  Very good desserts, prime rib was essentially a good piece of roast beef.  NY Strips were good, I wanted to try their steak house, but my poker tournament schedule ensured that we ate dinner by 5 or 6 every night.
