- from reader Karen B, September 2006.

Central City built a new road, connecting the city directly to I-70 with the hope that people would stop at their casinos and not head to Blackhawk's larger casinos. It doesn't seem to have paid off for Central City but it has made the trip from the interstate much safer and faster.

From the Central City Parkway you enter the Central City area from the mountains and descend into the city. There's a small half- paved parking lot overlooking the city. It's used by employees and is also for over-sized vehicles and it has no overnight parking signs posted. There's a shuttle bus to the casinos. We asked the driver about the overnight parking and he said that during the week it's fine to stay overnight but it's not allowed on weekends.

Continuing along the road takes you to Blackhawk. There's no parking for RVs at any of the casinos because they have been built in a small valley right against the mountains. The over-sized parking is high above the city. I don't think there are signs so it's a little hard to find. The road to the lot is between the Colorado Central Station Hotel and the Isle of Capri casino. The road appears to just go behind the casino but it actually is several miles long and very steep. Go past the first lot (employees ) and at the top is a large lot ( miner's mesa ) with a bus shelter and RV parking.

A shuttle runs regularly on weekends but you must use their phone to call for the shuttle during the week. They respond fairly fast. If you're not used to mountain driving this road is a little hair raising .

- from reader A. Van, February 2006.  The land for casinos in this area is pretty much cut out of the mountains so did not see much in the way of RV friendly parking in these adjacent towns. However the towns are small and there are probably a dozen or more casinos within walking distance of each other.

Gamblers Edge is a nice campground, level, long concrete pull thru's and and back-ins with full hookup,  including instant phones.  Located on a mountain top about 1000 ft directly above Central City.  Camp Ground elevation is 9,000’.  The last 1000 foot climb is accomplished in a little less than 1 mile (which is an above average grade) with 2 switchbacks.  Good laundry.  Good store.  Well run. $25/nite (2003)
